For sale is a rhyolite slice from Mt Hay, Qld. An excellent polished slice of a specimen that is also called Ocean Jasper. Large size, with great varied face color, with the small agates trapped in the rhyolite flow, give a great effect. Rhyolite is the most silica-rich of volcanic rocks. It is generally glassy or fine-grained (aphanitic) in texture, but may be porphyritic, containing larger mineral crystals (phenocrysts) in an otherwise fine-grained groundmass.
