For sale is a very uncommon, matrix specimen of sapphire from Ben Lomond, NSW. Sapphire on matrix from Australia is rare! This specimen looks as thou it has just arrived from the bowels of the earth. The matrix is some sort of conglomerate with few other minerals scattered about, mainly quartz, but I think there are a couple of small sapphires there as well. I obtained this piece from Paul Young, who collected it while doing exploration work at Ben Lomond,

For sale is a very uncommon, matrix specimen of sapphire from Ben Lomond, NSW. Sapphire on matrix from Australia is rare! This specimen looks as thou it has just arrived from the bowels of the earth. The matrix is some sort of conglomerate with few other minerals scattered about, mainly quartz, but I think there are a couple of small sapphires there as well. I obtained this piece from Paul Young, who collected it while doing exploration work at Ben Lomond, it was found on the surface. Over the years I have been tempted to cut this piece in half, to see if there is any other sapphire crystals inside, but I resisted the urge. Still its tempting!!
