For sale is a fine thunder egg heart from the Mt Warning volcanic’s in Nth NSW. As far as I can tell this is the core of an old thunder egg with the outer rhyolitic material eroded away. It The specimen is actually chalcedony, a small but complete ring around the outer edge, quite transparent. With the center being made up of quartz crystals, this piece has been sawn and polished to enhance the impact. This has the classic basket weave back side, characteristic of thunder eggs, see last pic. The quartz crystals are of an unusually large size for these specimen. Sorry there was a small amount of paper among the crystals, I have now removed it. The bottom right of the first two pics shows some very interesting hollow tubes among the chalcedony, uncommon and interesting, they appear to go right to the outside of the specimen. Collected by and from the collection of Cav. O’Mealley.
