For sale is a quite uncommon and unusual specimen from the Hillgrove mine, of stibnite with bismuthinite and metastibnite. Specimen featuring metastibnite are actually rare for the Hillgrove district. The abundant stibnite crystals have a large coverage of fine almost hair like, dark acicular bismuthinite crystals. The metastibnite coverage is confined to one area at the front left of the specimen, as can be seen from the pics. Also can be seen an area of radiating quartz crystals on the left front side. The last pics show the large stibnite crystals on the back of the piece, with crystals up to 75mm long. This is quite large for this location, which has produced Australia’s finest stibnite crystals.. Overall this is a class Hillgrove piece, with super uncommon association. This old mine (started in the 1880s) has now ceased to work, and will never produce any specimen again!! Please note specimen with metastibnite and bismuthenite are RARE from this location. This specimen is quite facinating under magnification, and I would not at all be surprised if careful examination did not reveal one or two more minerals on this specimen.
