For sale is a specimen of putnisite from Armstrong mine, near Kambalda W.Aust. The purple putnisite, which is a unique Sr-Cr-Ca hydrated hydrous sulphato-carbonate of strontium & chromium , can be seen at the top center of the pics, there is a small crystal to the right as well. Putnisite occurs as purple crystals in serpentine matrix in association with quartz gypsum and an amorphous chrome-silicate mineral. This is a very good sized specimen, for the species, which has been only found at two locations, just a few miles apart in West Aust, no where else. Nothing has been retrieved at either location since the original finds, and will never be because of the subsequent work and abandonment of the mines. Today this material is unobtainable, we were fortunate to have obtained some years ago when the Armstrong mine discovery was made, of which we put a couple aside for later years.
