For sale is a plate of Cretaceous era belemnite fossil from Queensland is 66 – 145 million years old. Belemites are extinct marine cephalopods probably most closely related to modern cuttlefish. I obtained this specimen from Garry Farnham , Wollongong, many years ago, and have never seen another from this location. The fossilized belemites fluoresce a sweet brightish yellow under U V light. This piece is literally chock full of fossilized belemites, interspersed with a couple of bands of mudstone, and a fair bit of ocean bottom small sea shells. Belemnites had worldwide distribution and chemical analysis of the fossils can indicate water temperature of the animals habitat.
