For sale is a wonderful two sided specimen of erythrite, mansfieldite and smolyaninovite from Mt Cobalt mine, Qld. As the pics show one side has a large display area of lush pink slender erythrite crystals, in some areas forming a mat, up to 7mm thick. The other side provides a fine display of the rare minerals, mansfieldite (cobalt bearing) with smolyaninovite, nicely displayed in abundance, over a large area of the surface. The smolyaninovite is pseudomorphing prior erythrite crystals. The erythrite sprays on the back give a fine highlight to this busy piece. “Cobalt Bloom” is an an old term for Erythrite. Erythrite is derived from the Greek word for “red’ Absolutely fascinating with some magnification, there are probable two other minerals present here, including heterogenite. This location is by far Australia’s finest erythrite specimen location. Today the mine has been rehabilitated and is no longer accessible. Large size, please remember our prices are in Australian dollars.
