A rare and pretty chalcotrichite from 276 Mine near Mount Elliot Mine, Selwyn Qld. Thou this species is not listed on Mindat as coming from this mine, I know that Jim Sharpe whom the specimen comes from does not make mistakes!! Specimen comes with Jim’s label. Chalcotricite which is a variety of Cuprite, is not a species that is particularly common from Australian locations. The vivid nature of this chalcotrichite specimen makes it an top class Australian specimen! Magnification shows that the thick mat of chalcotrichite crystals sit on dark cuprite crystals.! The white flashes comes from the shiny surface of the chalcotrichite crystals. RARE!!
