For sale is a capped quartz from Tasmania.A capped quartz is an extreme case of a phantom quartz: In a short period during the growth of the crystal a lot of material precipitated on the crystal’s rhombohedral faces most often a soft clay is the culprit, forming a thin layer within the crystal, when the crystal continues to grow. The “upper part” of the crystal is not fully connected to the “lower”, older part, and can be easily lifted off. This is a fine example of this uncommon form. Rare, and unique, possibly the only location this form of quartz has been found anywhere in Australia. This specimen also shows excellent chevron growth pattern! Collected by and from the collection of Frank and Trudy. Godney. Great size, pristine condition.
