A very rare berzelianite with minor umangite from Bukov mine, in the Czech Republic. Berzelianite is named after the Jacob Berzelius, the father of modern mineralogy, and chemistry, if for this reason only, collectors should have a specimen in their collection! Among a great host of things this amazing Swede did was give the symbols we use today to denote the elements, thus enabling the simplification of chemical formulas! He determined atomic weights, invented the word “catalyst” and it just goes on and on. Berzelianite is a rare selenium species, found in collectable specimens, from less just a very few location, today all are closed mines!
